HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE ON THE TEAM ROSTER?
Due to the consistent number of games being played in a week period, each team is typically made up of 18 to 22 guys on a roster. It depends on the number of athletes at tryouts and the specific needs of each individual team.
WHEN IS TRYOUT? HOW DOES IT WORK?
For the 2018-2019 season, tryouts are set up to take place on November 26th and 27th. The coaches will observe the athletes for a 2 hour period each day and will then be able to choose who will represent the high school at what level of play: Varsity, JV Black, and JV White. If it is decided that an athlete will not make a team, then the coaches will have an individual conversation with them about what we saw from them during the try out period. A coach will also call home to discuss the situation with a parent and answer any questions about the process.
DO I HAVE TO TAKE SOCCER CLASS TO BE ON THE TEAM?
If the athlete is planning to try out for soccer and is not involved in any other school activities, such as fine arts or another sport, then yes, they are expected to be in the period. If by some chance an athlete makes a team and was not in the period, they will be moved into the period unless their involvement in other school activities prohibits them from entering the period.
HOW OFTEN DO WE PRACTICE DURING OFF SEASON AND DURING THE SEASON?
During off season, the only official training times are during the soccer period. However, we do like to set up opportunities, “open morning workouts,” for the athletes to expand on the many components we stress to them in order to help make them a better all around player. Once the season hits, in late November, we will start having practices before or after school depending on the day. Practices last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours depending on the topics of emphasis, the necessary recovery time, and the prep time necessary for upcoming contests.
